Refractive surgery
When standard vision aids such as glasses and contact lenses are unable to fulfill the patient’s requirements, a consultation with a specialized eye surgeon is a sound move.
A suitable procedure can be selected following an extensive examination of the eyes. Refractive surgery is the operative correction of defective vision such as nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism by means of an eye laser or other operative surgical, implantation or lens techniques.
The objective of these methods is to correct the refractive error by an operative intervention on the cornea or lens so as to enable the light rays or images to be formed sharply on the retina again without additional optical aids. The operative correction of visual defects is carried out either on the cornea or by implantation of an artificial lens.
