In March 2002 the 5th Sursee Eye Surgery Meeting was held at the Verkehrshaus Lucerne.
The organising Team of the Augentagesklinik Sursee was able to present a very interesting programm offered by international renowned speakers.

The aim was to get nearer to the target of offering best possible surgery with vision as good as possible without hurting any tissue (what is not possible for the moment, as we know).

What are the take-home messages?

1. the developpement and invention goes on very far, so we have to be ?online? to be able to offer good treatment
2. the possibilty of correction of astigmatic errors is better now
3. because we understand much more of the architecture of the cornea and are able to measure more details, as for example the curvature of the backside
4. not everything offered by the industry always holds what is promised. This is certainly evident for the wavefront-technology
5. LASEK (will the name persist?) seems to offer a alternative to think over
6. New intraocular lenses are now on the market that are rather promising
7. The correction of presbyopia is always discussed, but not solved for the moment, promising ideas are ahead.

The meeting was a great success for the participants and was closed (as every year) with a marvellous wine and dine together with winewisser René Gabriel.
