After the operation
After the operation you will need to attend several minor and major follow-up examinations by the doctor performing the operation. Regular checks ensure that the process of healing goes smoothly.
Extremely good vision is generally achieved as soon as the day following the operation. During the first weeks slight changes to vision will still be experienced, final stability is generally reached after 3 4 weeks. As a general rule the prospects of dispensing with glasses for distance vision is inversely proportional to the degree of visual deficiency before the operation. Even with optimum success (= no distance vision glasses) reading glasses will probably be required from around 45 50 years of age in the same way as a person with normal vision would also require them from this age.
After two weeks you can again rub the eyes gently. However, your eyes should not be subjected to increased stresses (such as swimming, sauna and diving) until at least 4 weeks after the operation.
It is important that you keep to the prescribed therapy schedule after the operation. This has a decisive effect on the success of the treatment.
Following the operation you can eat and drink quite normally. Reading and television viewing are permitted, provided you do not feel any discomfort while doing so.
Please discuss physical activities with the doctor. As a general rule you should refrain from swimming, sauna and sport for four weeks. Finally, you also need patience. As with any healing process, it takes a little time until the final success of the treatment becomes apparent.
