The day of the operation
Before the laser operation, the eye which is to be operated on is anaesthetized with drops, while for lens implantation a local injection is given under a short anaesthetic. You will remain awake during either operation but will feel no pain.
The operation lasts just a few minutes and is painless.
Shortly after the laser operation, you will undergo another examination and your eye will be covered overnight with a transparent bandage.
A few hours after the lens implantation operation you will come for the first follow-up examination. In both cases you will be given eye drops, which you must regularly put in your eye during the first weeks. In the first hours after the operation your eye will water and your sight is blurred.
You may experience double vision as an after-effect of the injection at the time of the first examination, for which reason you will need to wear a bandage until the next day.
Severe pains are not normal, nor is a sudden deterioration in vision. Should these occur nevertheless, call the doctor who is treating you.
Take care that no water gets into the eye that has been operated on when washing or showering and that you do not rub the eye. You should not rub the eye that has been operated on in the first two weeks following the operation.
Under no circumstances should you drive a car on the day of the operation.
